About the Book:

This book is about clarifying concepts. It is about defining the role of the institution
of Media that should be playing a pivotal role in the evolving society of our country–
but somehow, there is a slip between the cup & the lip!

The concept of Freedom of Expression & Freedom of Speech for example is little
understood. The theories, limitations, cases. All aspects have been discussed to give
the bigger picture. Defamation, Contempt of Court, Cyber Law, Electronic Media,
Social Responsibility of Media; discussed threadbare with comparative laws
existing in other countries.

This book tries to address questions raised in every sphere. It is not another “theory
book” expounding concepts. It moves beyond discussing concepts to what issues
exist in the world of communications in Pakistan. What are the questions that need
to be addressed by relevant authorities in different mediums of communication and
their possible solutions too, are offered.

More often than not , the issues are pin-pointed but no steps to redress a situation
are chartered out. Here, the reader, the media practitioner and any one else interested,
finds; practical, workable steps to develop media into a vibrant institution  that is
ready to play a positive role in knitting together the Pakistani Society & building
bridges where needed–not creating further disenchantment & chaos!

    My Dearest Yasmeen,

Please accept once again my heartiest congratulation for official launching of your book on 20th of October 2012.

You will be pleased to know that I have deferred my visit to London for at least 2 weeks and returning to Islamabad to meet Dr. AHS and ensure that Rs.99.00 Million get approved by the Hon. Minister.

Transfer of funds usually take sometime and we shall than have no problem in its transfer subsequently.

I am not aware of the full contents of your research work but suggest that a copy of the same maybe forwarded to the head of department of Journalism Punjab, Peshawar & Karachi Universities.

    Best regards,

    Sincerely yours

And also wishing you and your family “EID MUBARAK”

    Hi Yasmeen,

An interesting subject to persue and write abourt. Media has an important role to play in society and can be constructive or destructive. From what I see of talk shows, it seems various anchors are more interested in fostering confrontation and thus loose control of their guests and the subject under discussion.

I shall get down to reading your book once I am done with the others. I am sure it is available on Amazon.

    Regards,

    Ardeshir

    My dear Yasmeen, AOA
I just got the much awaited book and immediately started reading it. I am also forwarding the details of the book to my friends and hopefully some of them will purchase it. Cn you send me your postal mailing address please. I thank you so much for considering me and sending me this coveted book. This book will go a long way in filling a void in this field. I think very few such books have been written in this region on such a specialized subject. It will be of immense interest in general and to many in India and Bangladesh also., Please have this book available in that region also.
    With warm regards
    Ata

    Dear Mian Rafee Sahib,
Thank you for raising a valid concern.
The first purpose of the book is to be used as a reference book for the Media Law Students.
Interestingly, no book exists that addresses the Media Law Course. In spite of the fact that it is a mandatory course.
Two, if educated people like you read the book, many concepts that are deliberately twisted, by some, will require no further elucidation.
The SC has directed PEMRA to get together the media stake holders & revise policies regarding electronic media.
