Salman Taseer Assassination and Pakistan

From: Major Agha Amin (R)

The assassination of Salman Taseer is a marginal issue for the vast bulk of Pakistan’s population.

This is so because Pakistan’s common man is going through the darkest part of Pakistan’s economic history where mere survival has become difficult for him!

It would not be wrong to say that Pakistan is now a suicide bombers factory where people are willing to sacrifice their life for a few thousand rupees!

People in Pakistan are selling their kidneys to survive! Selling their children! Pensioners are dying silent deaths of desperation!

But the Pakistani elite is enjoying life! Expensive restaurants are full! Expensive cars are on the road and multiply every day!

Pakistan’s crooks who constitute its politicians, civil servants (mostly lower middle class social climbers who make money with massive corruption in a few years of joining FBR, Police or DMG!), generals, feudals and industrialists are enjoying life!

The army, the police, the intelligence has one role! To keep the have-nots under control!

Common man is being killed by police for money! Baloch are killed by the intelligence! People are sold to the US for being Taliban although most are innocent! Drones attack and kill the innocent every day!

Everybody is being killed so blasphemy law is just one issue!

Salman Taseers death is tragic but so are the deaths of  hundreds of Pakistanis every day at the hands of Pakistan’s police, army and Pakistan’s landlords and politicians!

Pakistan is taking  a deep dive into chaos and anarchy!

Salman Taseer or no Salman Taseer, Pakistan is doomed!

The real issue in Pakistan is that those who matter control everything! Some 2 % own 80 % of the wealth and only pay 9 % of taxes! While the 98 % who own 20 % in assets pay 91 % taxes!

Pakistan’s issue is poverty, injustice and exploitation!

Religious hatred is a result of frustration stemming out of poverty!

What difference does it make to a pensioner who gets 85 USD per month and dies a premature death from depression and psychosomatic diseases whether Salman Taseer was unjustly gunned down or not! So many unknown Salman Taseers are gunned down daily by Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies every day!

In Pakistan the have-nots have only one choice! Commit suicide or kill the rich! It’s all about economics!

(The writer is a retired Major from the Pakistan Army).

It has so many things but two are very rightly pointed out which will go unnoticed. The life of a retired soldier or officer much acclaimed as one family when in service and other is degree of despondency. A fact sheet by him

The Retired Major is ABSOLUTELY right…this assassination of a ‘political’
leader is but the tip of the iceberg. The rich flaunt their wealth and the poor gets
poorer and poorer….where will this lead to in the end ?

The answer is two words : BLOODY REVOLUTION .

    God help us all.

      Akhtar Bukhari Sahab
Why in the world you would want to single out Army Officers and their flats etc.
Have a single yard stick to every one. Do not do or advocate selective justice.
If you are not familiar, plots are allotted or given to soldiers are not robbed or
      taken out by cheating.

Please do not forget to include in your list, lawyers, judges, police officers,
CBR officers, and almost all level of bureaucracy, Customs officials (from
peon to the highest rankers) businessmen who do double entries, Importers
who are under Invoicing, some of the NGO’s . should I keep going or
      stop ????????????????
      Have a good day sir.

Major Agha Amin has written passionately and truthfully. he has accurately described the current situation in Pakistan. All killings/assassinations are bad, but as he says hundreds others are being killed everyday by bullets, drone attacks, poverty and due to the highhandedness of the the elitist class. So let us not be carried away but come to the basics. I won’t go to the extent of saying Pakistan is doomed but the present rulers and the government ‘elected’ democratically by Pakistanis is certainly doomed. I hope an alternate leadership is preparing itself to rule honestly, skillfully, bravely with justice and accountability for all.

I am an American. I have to look at this from an American point of view. As I see it the United States is an important player in Pakistani domestic problems. For every drone attack this reinforces this summation.

If the US is going to play a role in stabilizing Pakistan then it has to act on factual root causes (plural) information. If what the writer is telling us is right Americans only hear and read about the cause for this assassination is the blasphemy law.

This is shameful and again says to me I am right when I write governments have to act from a position of — what is the right thing to do, based on broad information, and hard sought intelligence reports. Not react solely to what the media is reporting.

I can guarantee Pakistan — Americans are thinking this is all about the blasphemy law. Americans are taught like ignorant drones by corporate global media, Muslims and Islam are all about evil. This is sad.

God Bless you Major Agha for portraying such a realistic picture of Pakistan..Almost everywhere i ascribe same lines that i would like to repeat here..Our elite and so called highly educated and foriegn qualified class mainly under Fullbright Scholarship schemings is mainly responsible for every ill in our society. The integrity and vitality of our so called educated class in our highly vulnerable society normally do not work to resolve but they merely work for their own vested interests and illustrous life styles. They basically view every aspect under perspectives of their foreign branded full bright scholarships attained knowledge and skills that hardly makes them understand to know where they actually stand. Our so called highly educated and privileged lot generally classify themselves as moderate enlightened are actually consider of themselves all sitting atop Mount Everest of intellect viewing down below all others as dwarfs peddling and paddling in slums and dark caves of ignorance. Unfortunately our egoistic and so proudly elite lots normally in disconnect remains at a distant from the urgencies of the respond to crucial demand of crucial moments of country and society. Instead they just keep sitting on their own tails wearing branded dinner suits and fancy neckties holding crystal goblets sitting in their cozy lounges, sunshine lawns on silver screens every evening they merely curse and brag in fashion “look where our country and society is heading towards”? But numbers of disastrous moments in recent past have proved that our educated elite have miserably failed to respond responsibly. Basic problem confronting today especially in countries like of ours that is thriving with foreign interventions, intruders and tress passers are not the absence of democracy and intolerance. The basic problem and dilemma is the absence and sheer lack of competence and governance especially of those who somehow and someway or the other are made and managed to sit at helm of our affairs and at levers of powers and prerogatives to adversely affect the life and livelihood of our people socially, economically, politically and also religiously. These rented puppets so called so known as President, PM, Ministers, Governors, MPs and whatnots are supposed to be highly incompetent and corrupt not only by qualification and credentials but also by choice. Main tool given in their hands by their sponsors to rule on their people is the exploitation of poverty slums and religious sectarian factions rather than adherance and abidance with rule of law and constitution of land.
In the name of freedom of expression to suite their own hidden intents and interests many modern scholars and change agents of today maximize, aggravate and highlight basic differences of religious beliefs in order to brew them all into conflicts between liberals and radicals.
Dominance of the lust of illicit wealth and power in any society, law of land is generally kept as a keep in illicit hands of extra ordinaries of society. When happens so, then ordinaries, commoners and downtrodden fighting for their livlihood are simply made to be crushed by law. When commoners and ordinaries of society are crushed by law they give up all hopes from laws of state but keep themselves up inevitably intact from power of their own muscles. When laws are made their enemies they will obviously turn as enemies to law. All those who have much to hope but nothing to loose will always be dangerous more or less especially when their life becomes poorer and the world duller.
