Machiavelli’s Prince: Can he be a Threat to Pakistan’s Nuclear Assets?

By: Jawad Raza Khan

It was an intelligence miscalculation-they don’t have WMDs but……..- we had to be sure – These were something like confessions by Mr. Collin Powell after invading Iraq on the pretext of WMDs, which were never found. Statements by Foreign Secretary of Washington Empire, clearly speaks of overwhelming effects of Machiavelli-ism on US politics.

Niccolò di Bernardo dei Machiavelli was an Italian philosopher, humanist, and writer based in Florence during the Renaissance. He is well known in modern politics as a writer of his book The Prince. As per Machiavelli, to retain power Prince can act immoral in order to cement the political structure of his state.  It is indeed a strange phenomenon that champions of Democracy in today’s world follow Niccolo Machiavelli, who interestingly had a soft corner for Tyranny.

Leo Strauss, the American political philosopher, declared himself more inclined toward the traditional view that Machiavelli was self-consciously a “teacher of evil,” (even if he was not himself evil) since he counsels the princes to avoid the values of justice, mercy, temperance, wisdom, and love of their people in preference to the use of cruelty, violence, fear, and deception. Still Strauss invented the hypothesis of strong nationalism for the survival of America which later on turned into the theory of neoconservatives (The real follower of Machiavelli-ism).  One of his followers Ron Suskind, senior advisor of President George W. Bush wrote in an article “Without a Doubt,” which appeared in theNew York Times on October 17, 2004. According to Suskind, “in what we call the reality-based community,” which he defined as people who “believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.” I [Suskind] nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He said. “That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors … and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”

Creating so called fabricated reality (sheer lie) started since the inception of this world but Global politics saw it more frequently by United States soon after the First World War. I would like to use word ghost in place of reality from now on.

Down fall of Nazis and creation of Soviet Union instigated a powerful neo-conservative of that time Donald Rumsfeld in the era of President Renold Reagan, to pursue creation of first Russian ghost, who is eager to use her nuclear arsenal against Americans. It was a classical example of changing the mindset of own people through the world of Fantasies (Hollywood). Series of movies were made in that era on the subject for instance; the most remembered and still continuing James Bond. It was genuinely the most heated era of the Cold War.

Later on, it was came in lime light that Russians had no such designs ever, but the ghost created by Washington and London Empire did their job professionally and cunningly courtesy CIA and MI- 6. The Russian economy went into Doldrums in order to appropriately respond the westerner’s onslaught to match up and to open new venues for the improving their deplorable economy they did a blunder- invaded Afghanistan.

The Afghan War fought financially by CIA for bigger aims, using innocent Afghans, Arabs and Pakisani Pushtuns as fuel, and the created Ghost was evaporated. Again the Machiavelli’s principle of cruelty and deception was applied, and executed with mind and force.

After 9/11 a new Ghost appeared, The Al Qaida, again Mr. Donald Rumsfeld was made available in Bush Administration, keeping in view his master stroke of creating the Russian Nuclear Ghost and we all know what happened since then.

The region is burning; Pakistan the ally of US in this War on Terror is fighting an intense insurgency since 2003. Pakistan Army has lost more than 3000 soldiers and officers and all that has happened after the US invasion of Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the Machiavellian minds in US administration had started creating another Nuclear Ghost, this time on the pretext of insecure and theft able nuclear assets of Pakistan going into the hands of Terrorists. Nuclear weapons are accessible to Terrorists-Pakistan must improve the security of her Nuclear Arsenals-Pakistan nuclear facilities are not updated as per the international standards for security. Now this is the theme for Neo conservatives in Obama administration. Resultantly, uncountable Raymonds are loitering in the streets of Pakistan with their neo conservative agenda working hand and glove with CIA.

Now let’s analyze the overall nuclear safety environment around the world including Chernobyl disaster:

  • It was a worst nuclear reactor accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine (then part of the Soviet Union). It resulted in a severe release of radioactivity following a massive power excursion that destroyed the reactor. Most deaths from the accident were caused by radiation poisoning. 56 direct deaths occurred whereas 800,000 suffered radiation exposure leading to cancer related deaths. The radioactive release of the Chernobyl event is claimed to be 300 or 400 times that of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. The radioactivity released at Chernobyl tended to be more long lived than that released by a bomb detonation. So even without using atomic bomb this technology can eliminate thousands of people through radiation exposure.
  • Critical observation of nuclear accidents history clearly indicates that US, Russia, France and some other European countries do not possess a good track record, rather United States and Russia tops the list in countries where nuclear accidents had occurred.

US biased attitude towards Pakistan can also be proved by scanning through the Indian record of nuclear accidents (including theft of Fissile material). This must also be seen in the context of US-India civil nuclear deal.

Based on data available from IAEA, some of the incidents are as follows:

  • India has reported at least 25 cases of missing radioactive materials.
  • Nearly 20,000 radioactive sources are used throughout India of which about 900 are particularly worrisome.
  • These missed or stolen radioactive materials can be used by terrorists for making “Radiological Dispersion Devices”, which can create havoc such as Chernobyl.
  • On 26 January 2003 CNN repoted that Indian company, NEC Engineers Private Ltd. shipped 10 consignments to Iraq, containing highly sensitive equipments entailing titanium vessels and centrifugal pumps. Indian investigators acknowledged that the company falsified customs documents to get its shipments out of India.
  • In February 2004 India’s Ambassador to Libya, Dinkar Srivastava revealed that New Delhi was investigating that retired Indian scientists could possibly be engaged in “high technology programs” for financial gains during employment in the Libyan government.
  • In 2005 Indian scientists, Dr. Surendar and Y. S. R Prasad had been blacklisted by Washington due to their involvement in nuclear theft.
  • World cannot forget the Bhopal nuclear disaster (3 Dec 1984) in which toxic gas, methyl isocyanate, seeped from Union Carbide insecticide plant, killing more than 2,000 and injuring about 150,000.

On the contrary, in Pakistan not a single such incident has been reported because of highly professional work carried out by PNRA (Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority).  Case of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan in this safe and professional nuclear environment seems to be a case of Phantom zing by US, in order to create pressure on Pakistan with regards to its nuclear assets.

It is easy to see now the fundamental level of power politics — the workings of the lie, hypocrisy, and half-truth with continuity.

The essence of immorality is the tendency to make an exception of myself.  Jane Addams

Indeed ignorable easily in the light of Machiavelli’s Principles.

A huge obstacle for Americans to overcome it seems to me is the belief that only in conflict such as war or the threat of war can the resources be gathered for a growing economy. Bush’s Iraq war for example.

Europe has done very well to let Americans beat the drums of war, and then picking and choosing what part of the American war to be involved in. All the time with profits dancing in their heads like sugar plums.

  • siddiquimy  On March 9, 2011 at 5:02 pm

I am glad younger Pakistanis like Raza Khan have begun to understand real nature of the american real politc……….
It is all about energy resources for the energy guzzling America without which its engine of Industry cannot function !!
Iraq was all about OIL; Afghanistan is all about OIL; ME is all about OIL
I fully agree with Archie’s comments

    • S U Turkman  On March 9, 2011 at 7:14 pm

If Iraqi Invasion was all for Oil, how come Iraqi Government signed an Agreement to sell Oil to China instead of USA?
      * Only 10% of all the Oil that USA consumes comes from Middle East and it comes from Saudi Arabia.
      * No American Oil company ever existed in Iraq therefore, USA has never gotten any Oil from Iraq since Oil Wells were discovered there.

      • BS Detecor  On March 9, 2011 at 10:05 pm

Turkman It is not about consumption of oil exactly. It is all about controlling the access to oil. Again controlling the access to oil! If the US controls access it have more leverage regarding the use of other pressure points the US want to enforce.

  • Haroon  On March 9, 2011 at 6:18 pm

The American tactics– all, without exception, can be equally and if need be , overly countered with ease, but for one thing : for that we need the people with no skeletons hanging in their cupboards and their bellies on diets.

Interestly there is no dearth of such people amongst us, either.

One should read Machiavelli with the reality of Nemesis. His so-called effective truth (verita effetuale) is the very seed of destruction that lies in the evil designs of big power ‘actors of history’.

    • S U Turkman  On March 9, 2011 at 7:17 pm

Nobody in Pakistan has to read Machiavelli because if he was alive, he would be coming to Pakistan get further Training.

  • S U Turkman  On March 9, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Jawad did not understand what Suskind was saying. His twisted brain assumed, what he was saying.
    * He pointed out towards Strauss and hardly any Americans know him, forget about US Presidents following him.
    * He claims USA got in to World Politics after WW I and had started her fabricated lies, … but he does not tell us, what were those lies.
    * He puts Rivalry between Communism and the Semi Socialist West and all the wars in just one sentence that USA had created a hoax that USSR had wanted to nuke the West. Its like Wars in Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Congo etc never existed.
    * He claims, USA used his innocent MojaahiDeen to fight Communism in Afghanistan but does not explain, why were they and Pakistan was so greedy to take money for doing that?
    * He gives an impression that West’s war against Communism was actually just USA’s war and it was a Machiavellian concept but does not explain, why were almost all Moslim Countries including his own were so much against Godless Communism also if Communism was just a Ghost created by USA.
    * He claims, ‘Region is burning’, when there is nothing going on outside Pakistan and Pakistan Army behind all the Terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan, not USA.
    * He claims, Al Qaeda is also a US Created Ghost and it does not exist, which is a very stupid conclusion.
I am not wasting my time reading rest of B.S. of this insane man.

  • S U Turkman  On March 10, 2011 at 2:42 am

    Detecor, what are those points?
    What’s their purpose?
What has USA achieved by those points so far except becoming the world’s biggest Debtor, when she used to be the biggest Creditor?
What is USA achieving by becoming indebted at the tune of $ 1 trillion a year?

    • BS Detector  On March 10, 2011 at 3:44 pm

You will not get me to defend what I consider stupid maybe a little arrogant policies leading the world to to nowhere. Nowhere foreign policies it seems the US State Department moves and promotes under the guidance of all White Houses since Reagan.

My question to you is why do you make what most consider grandiose sweeping statement having no connection to what is being talked about? You do not open any debate you just attack ideas as they are written.

Not sure you read much of what is being written on any American blogs. Americans for the most part who read think the same as you said here. Shamefully the US has became a debtor nation squandering it’s wealth.

But a debtor nation with the military ability to destroy the world in let’s us say 1 and 1 half hour. This is scary since the people who want to be in charge are controlled by those that want to hurry the second coming of Jesus. See the US has their own religious crazies.

Maybe it’s time to let government be ran by secularists.

  • S U Turkman  On March 10, 2011 at 10:37 pm

Detector, you accused USA that she wants to control flow of Oil. You wrote, “US controls access it have more leverage regarding the use of other pressure points the US want to enforce”
All I asked was, to what end and purpose if USA is getting nowhere in doing all that?
But you had to go personal just like all Islamists do because you asked me why do I make, “grandiose sweeping statement having no connection to what is being talked about? You do not open any debate you just attack ideas as they are written”, when actually you attacked me instead of answering my question that was 100% related to what you had written. May Allah give you some more Brain …!

    • BS Detector  On March 11, 2011 at 11:54 pm

I guess Turkman since I am an Islamist you must not be Pakistani. If you were you would not make this statement. You have no idea who I am or what are my beliefs. Get personal ha and another ha ha. You need to be held accountable for your broad sweeps. Debates —- What debates you attack Pakistan and this is about all you say.

Pakistan has problems. Most countries do. In Pakistan’s case much of it’s problems came from the US fight with the former Soviet Union and the radical mobilization of Islamic radicals after the fact. Remember Osama Bin Laden a former US paid fighter during Soviet Times?

Now 2011 the US is fighting another war with the same people it radicalized. Remember Bin Laden the former US paid fighter? Once you give a man a gun and tell him to kill people it changes everything. The US did this.

    For respected Turkman sb
Iraq has world’s SECOND largest Oil reserves. Iraq has over 10million barrels oil reserves, second only to Saudi Arabia. Iraq has over 100 Trillion cu ft of natural gas. Mosul oil is ‘sweet oil’ requiring almost no refining……
It is estimated USA will require more than 50 million barrels a day in addition to present consumption. ME oil is the cheapest and as a result of Iraq accupation Iraqi oil is undetr total american control ! and it has been privatised !! and over 60% iraqi oil fields are under control of US companies under Production Sharing Control………………………..
Saddam was planning to trade oil in EURO….a severe threat to USA…he had to go????

Please wake up and donot be His Master’s Voice…….

    • S U Turkman  On March 11, 2011 at 8:51 pm

      Mr. Siddiqui,
Your information is wrong because …
      * … Iraq’s Oil Reserves are 10.9% of whole world’s Oil Reserves. Azerbaijan 15% is 2nd, Canada 13.42% 3rd and Iraq is 4th. (Ref: World Oil & Gas Journal)
      * … Iraq is not listed as world’s nine largest Natural Gas Reserves and the 9th is Venezuela with just 2.4% of World’s Gas Reserves. (Ref: World Oil & Gas Journal)
      * … USA does not require any additional Oil because Oil import of USA is going down for the last 3 years because of introduction of Electric Cars and Economic Depression. (Ref; 1. World Oil & Gas Journal, 2. Wall Street Journal, 3. Petroleum Importers of USA).
      * … Middle East Oil is not cheaper. Oil sells for whatever Market Price is according to less or more refining cost of it. (Ref: 1. World Oil & Gas Journal, 2. Wall Street Journal, 3. Government of Saudi Arabia, 4. Government of Norway, etc, etc)
      * … Cost importing Oil from Middle East is higher than import from nearby Canada, Mexico and Venezuela for USA. (Ref: 1. US Department of Energy, 2. Wall Street Journal, 3. World Oil & Gas Journal, 4. Oil Importers of USA, etc)
      * … Iraqi Oil is not under control of USA or American Oil Companies and if any American country hired by Iraq is there, it has no control over, which country Iraqi Government decides to sell Oil to. (Ref: US States Department, 2. Government of Iraq, 3. Government of China, the main purchaser of Iraqi Oil)
      * … Saddam could not have been planning to sell Oil for Euro because there was no Euro until 2000. Saddam had no Oil to sell even before 2000 because of UN Sanctions and he was allowed to sell only enough Oil so she could pay for import of Food and other Humanitarianism needs of Iraqis.
Therefore, its no me, who has to wake up. Its you trying to convince me of your blatant Lies, sir.

Very interesting and yet smelling of a rat in Turkman’s ignorance. Until quite recently, Leo Strauss and his disciples were considered (insofar as anyone took any notice of them) just a particular variety of conservative intellectuals, with a special interest in political philosophy and American constitutional history. Now we are beginning to discover that something peculiar has been going on all this time.

The greatest peculiarity of Straussianism is that there is such a thing. Not a single other “conservative” thinker has inspired a following remotely comparable, in size, continuity, and influence, to that of Leo Strauss. There is a Straussian school as there is no Weaveran or Burnhamite or Meyeran or Kendallist or Voegelinist school. And this school has its own interests, ideas, and purposes, which are clearly distinct from mainstream conservatism, however close to their collective chest they play their cards.

The Straussians are also the only group of “conservatives” ever to amount to anything in the academic world. They have reportedly been gradually, quietly infiltrating and taking over political-science departments, making that discipline characteristically theirs, as Marxists have done with sociology, and libertarians with economics.
Now may I question you, as to why was Iraq invaded? I regret my ignorance, perhaps you may like to put me wiser.
If no American company existed in Iraq, it now probably will. If Machiavelli lived, I am sure he would have chosed be trained by Chanakia Kutalya, therefore you must understand where would he have gone for training.
I hope you are not confusing Ron Suskind with Patric Suskind. If Ron Suskind’s sensational charge that the White House and CIA colluded in forging evidence to justify the Iraq invasion isn’t proved conclusively in his new book, “The Way of the World,” then the sorry record of the Bush administration offers no basis to dismiss his allegation. Setting aside the relative credibility of the author and the government, the relevant question is whether the available facts demand a full investigation by a congressional committee, with testimony under oath.

When we look back at the events surrounding the emergence of the faked letter that is at the center of this controversy, a strong circumstantial case certainly can be made in support of Suskind’s story.

That story begins during the final weeks of 2003, when everyone in the White House was suffering severe embarrassment over both the origins and the consequences of the invasion of Iraq. No weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq. No evidence of significant connections between Saddam Hussein’s regime and the al-Qaida terrorist organization had been discovered there either. Nothing in this costly misadventure was turning out as advertised by the Bush administration.

According to Suskind, the administration’s highest officials — presumably meaning President Bush and Vice President Cheney — solved this problem by ordering the CIA to manufacture a document “proving” that Saddam had indeed been trying to build nuclear weapons and that he was also working with al-Qaida. The reported product of that order was a fake memorandum from Tahir Jalil Habbush, then chief of Saddam’s intelligence service, to the dictator himself, dated July 1, 2001. The memo not only explicitly confirmed that 9/11 hijacker Mohammed Atta had received training in Baghdad for “attacking the targets that we have agreed to destroy” but also carefully noted the arrival of a “shipment” from Niger via Libya, presumably of uranium yellowcake, the sole export of that impoverished African country.

M was evil because he taught the rulers how to exploit the people.he did not believe in the welfare of the individual in the state.people were to be ruled and exploited in order to remain in power.he was a product of the dark ages of europe.the more enlightened commentaries come from the greeks.the world is reaching that level of enlightenment due to devt of tech and mental faculties.Shaheen bibi’s emphasis on local govt is nothing but the concept of the city state where the local population and each individual is incharge of their immediate environment.humanity has outgrown the nation-state and therefore the need of strong local govt.
the organs of the nation state have tp lose out to local govt and let people think in terms of regional and global decision-making.

But Shah sb…do we want to share power with the people…you did it …& lives changed !
