Balochistan under attack

This is a Pakpotpourri Exclusive

By: Hamid Waheed

Covert operations under media support has emerged as one of most powerful tool to psychologically defeat a community  and force it to follow desired line of order. The hostile media controlled by the global and regional powers focus on molding ideas, building perceptions, and convincing under educated people of poor third world countries. Pakistan in general and the province of Balochistan in particular presently face this hostile media onslaught on lines of Kurd Model. The main theme  projected says that security apparatus is the main coercive tool being used against the natives to deprive them of their livelihood.. They blame Pakistani media for not reporting on the brutal realities of Balochistan in any meaningful manner. Despite the fact that the province is of great strategic interest to the world, its people suffer from persistent, systemic and widespread human rights abuse  by state authorities .The Human Rights Watch gives verdict by  saying “indisputable” evidence points to the hand of the FC, the ISI and its sister agency, Military Intelligence is behind the killings and kidnapping. However they fail to convince the general public on issues like the killings of eleven people by unidentified armed men at a Frontier Works Organization (FWO) camp in Palari area of Balochistan’s Gwadar district, targeting “settlers” and government officials and killing at least 16 Punjabi speaking individuals in the Bolan area last August. The responsibility of all such incidents though has been publically accepted by insurgent groups like BLA or BRA. They also have no logic to explain army’s contributions specially under General Kiyani in Balochistan for a common Balochi.

The covert hands support insurgency in Balochistan, through safe havens provided to the militants in different countries to destabilize Pakistan. It is not a secret now that of Government of Balochistan in exile (GOB Exile) established by militants in April 2005 has it’s headquarter in Jerusalem as is evident from the website anyone can go and have a look. Very interestingly Balochistan Legal fund (BLF) has address originating from Washington DC. The ban on jihadi organizations and their assets freezing is common international phenomena but such support originating from Washington? I am reminded of a document How India’s intelligence establishment see the Balochistan situation written by Kanchan Lakashman which says While the US is broadly committed to the general ‘stabilization’ of Pakistan, it does have a vested interest in delaying projects that would establish a dominant Chinese strategic presence in the region, particularly the Port of Gawadar. Thus military analyst predicts some US interest will be persistent, through low grade, violence in the province and this is where Indo –US interest converge. According to Wiki leaks, also Americans are interested to increase their influence in Gawadar and other part of the Balochistan. A regional think tank says, damaging China-Pakistan joint venture of development of Gawader port is one of the main US interest in Balochistan.

A reported published in The Gulf Times says that Investigations into the case of Raymond Davis, have revealed that the US spy agency, CIA is indulged in heavy recruitment of local agents in Pakistan’s south-western province Balochistan to locate members of the so-called Quetta-based Taliban Shura. The probe also indicates around 300 more CIA contractors were present in various parts of the country, apparently to keep an eye on Taliban and ALQ leaders that the American suspects too have taken refuge in various cities and towns across the country. According to a source “It has also been revealed that the CIA is indulged in heavy recruitment of local people as agents in Balochistan to locate members of the Quetta Shura, a term used by the Americans for Mullah Omar-led Taliban commanders. The New York Times moves to support Quetta Shura perception by providing space to Carlotta and publishes a report saying Taliban commander Haji Khalil of Marja  was killed in Quetta and gives credibility to Quetta Shura. Where as ISAF report ISAF Joint Command Evening Operational Update, published  on Feb. 11, 2011 confirms his death in action in Musa Qualah district, Helmand province, on Feb. 9. . Carlotta writes quoting The Associated Press of Pakistan(APP) that Manzoor Ahmed, the former Taliban sports minister, was shot four times by unidentified assailants on the way to his office in the border town of Chaman on March 3. However, no such report of 3rd March on APP  was found about Mullah Manzoor Ahmed. This news was available on The Baloch Hal News whose website is already banned by Pakistan Telecom Authority because of its anti Pakistan editorial policy. This further substantiates the linkage between covert hands the local handlers and the media .

America is not the only interested player in Balochistan. The activities of Mir Suleiman, Khan of Kalat operating from U.K, holding anti Pakistan rallies and maligning Pakistan for forcible annexation of Balochistan has its own dimensions? Presence and involvement of Indian Consulates in Afghanistan bordering Balochistan along illegal arms supply route, arrest of Gazin Marri in Dubai in March 2006 for channeling funds to BLA from Dubai, and arrest and release of Harbayar Marri in UK and facilities of Indian visa to insurgents leaves many unanswered question. Moreover, the pictures obtained from Raymond show sensitive areas of Pak India border which has more relevance for India rather than America  adds new dimension to joint covert operations. This may be that foreign hand at which our political and military leaders often hint but never speak.

The most surprising move has this time come from India, its first initiative for cricket diplomacy to improve regional relationship. Such initiative must be taken as a positive step but future must be predicted in light of history. India has always had hegemonic approach towards its neighbours and its goodwill gestures have mostly concluded with economic or militarily strangulating projects for the neighbours. May it be the construction of a barrage at Farakka, near the border with Bangladesh. For the downstream riparian country, freshwater availability depends on the share of water diverted by upstream India, and as a result Bangladesh has experienced a 50% decrease of dry season mean flow amounts since the commissioning of the barrage in 1975. Such drastic reductions have caused a series of problems including drop in agro and fish productivity, saltwater intrusion and ecological imbalance. Pakistan is locked in other territorial disputes with India such as the Siachen Glacier, Sir Creek and construction of dams including Baglihar Dam built over the River Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir. Similarly China, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka all have host of problems leading to mistrust in relationship. The cricket diplomacy has this time coupled with a news that India is all set to build 558 roads at a cost of Rs 500 billion along the border with two hostile neighbours — China and Pakistan — in a bid to effectively counter the former, which is working at a high speed to execute world-class infrastructure along the Indo-China and Indo-Pakistan border region.

Decision has also been taken to build an all weather road along the 1,417 km long Indo-Myanmar border region besides construction of at least 50 helipads to ensure quick reaction from the air force and the infantry, in case of any eventuality. India had redrafted its military doctrine on building border infrastructure as a force multiplier in a real war situation. This needs attention in back drop of Indian Army Chief’s statement of taking both Pakistan and China simultaneously through its cold start doctrine.

The above may have been yet another conspiracy theory for the so called liberals calling shots for Aman Ki Asha but may be such reminders from history brings the required caution, however caution should never undermine the emotions as emotionalism speaks of a living nation . More important for us is the realization of dangers we are currently facing. The answer lies in understanding, developing and cementing our house from within to guard against  implosions and work out a sutto voce notion at national level which should commensurate with the present global and regional challenges being faced by Pakistan.

Oh yeah, yeah. Poor Pakistan has always been conspired against. The world has nothing else left to do. The fact is, whenever any minorities of Pakistan stand up against Tyranny of Pak Establishment, they have been declared Foreign Agents, Traitors and Enemies of Pakistan. This was done against, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Wali Khan, G M Syed, Molana Bahsani, Molvi Farid Ahmed, Sh. Mujib, Syed Altaf Hussain, Bizinjo, Bugti, etc, etc.
No Punjabi Political Leader has ever been declared Traitor despite that ones son’s letter to Bajpai was produced in Indian Parliament, wherein he had requested help of Indian Army to restore his father back as Prime Minister. When PML N had started causing Terrorism, it was never declared a Terrorist Party like all other Non Punjabi Political Parties.
Now Pak Army has been justifying slaughter of Balochis in the name of Pakistan for the 4th time since its invasion in 1948. Afghanistan is US Occupied but Baluchistan, PakhToon Khwah, FATA, Tribal Areas etc are not Pakistan Occupied for more than last 60 years.
Can anybody tell us, when had British given those areas to Mr. Jinnah?
Had not Pakistan of August, 1947 that Mr. Jinnah had been permitted was only East Bengal, West Punjab and Sindh?
Who is fooling, who in the name of Pakistan?
Is Pakistan just Punjabis and Pak Army and rest of 56% of Pakistanis are their Slaves?

So y wont we teach our children to be good muslims

  • Faisal Malik  On April 2, 2011 at 6:11 am

    * it has always been the wrongdoings of a few, while the rest sleep, that provoke even brothers to go in the arms of an enemy, and being used by them.

    * to get disheartened by brothers’ acts and start trusting a snake is even a bigger crime.

    * India has never accepted the creation of Pakistan let alone its existence. It will keep on eating at us, looking for disgruntled Pakistanis hurt at the hands of the elite, and raise the separatist slogans on the basis of ethnicity.

    * ethnicity and being proud of it is the mother of all f-ups.

    * Pakistanis can survive only till they know who the real enemy is.

    * the common man HAS got to learn to respect people from other regions of Pakistan. and see if they are in pain, run for their help.

    * if we don’t do this, we are only going to make Indian snake happy.

For once Turkman has said somethings sensible…congratulations !
Pakistan’s main problem is we are still not a Nation but a grouping of various nationalities; even Bluchistans is not all Baluchi; at least half if not more are pashtuns …… But it is nothing strange as it takes time to weld peoples into a nationhood; just read the history of the world’s greatest power…US of A…….
Another problem is most of us are INDIA-CENTRIC !! pl leave India alone; It is like an elephant and cannot be ignored but then others too survive and live in the jungle………….Look at Canadians? they never go into over drive over USA ?
Peoples of Baluchistan are fine people; structrul changes are required in Baluchistan itself which must come from within ie end of Sirdari system and more education……..but they cannot and should not be imposed but are to come from within by the Baluch peoples and it will come , be assured. Self styled leaders sitting in London,Paris or Te Avive etc will fade away
Punjab has certainly faulted but it feels like an elderly brother, which it is, and hence tend to act like a “thenedar” !!!!
Time is a great Healer so let us be patient and tolerant.
Thank you Turkman only you could say it better ??????????

Yes, there is Pak establishment “tyranny” but it has also been proved without a shadow of doubt that there is US investment and collusion in this tyranny. I agree the establishment’s “india-centric” focus is in over drive but Pakistan’s geopolitical strategic placement cannot be ignored. US is playing its game and they have invaded and occupied the whole bloody region as per their plans and Pakistanis esp the “majority” were only to happy to let them come and walk all over them to put it politely. India has realized the threat of US presence in this region, its not just China they want to stop but also India

But US has a history of hanging itself when you give it enough rope, watch and see, the Chinese may not be in the media but they are very much here defending their interests.

Balochistan just part of the bigger game going on in this region.

  • Faisal Malik  On April 2, 2011 at 10:00 am

can we be not india-centric when they have always tried to erase us from the map of the world??

or have you all forgotten the words uttered by their beloved indira-assassinated-by-own-guards-gandhi after the separation of East pakistan and their role in it??

the clap takes both hands to strike each other.

    its never a one-way thing.

    • Faisal Malik  On April 2, 2011 at 10:01 am

and Canada don’t need to go into overdrive with U.S because U.S is busy all over the world manipulating the populace and rearranging the Muslim world especially.

NOT so the case with the thug on our right…….mahaan(NOT) bharat.

    • S U Turkman  On April 7, 2011 at 1:10 am

      Mr. Malik,
Has India been infiltrating JehaaDis in to Gilgit like we have been infiltrating them in India Held Kashmir?
Is India terrorizing us or we are terrorizing India like a Monkey on Shoulder of Uncle Sam, USA?
USA has saved Pakistan 4 times (1965, 1971, 1998, 2003). How many more times you want her to save Pakistan and declare, Pakistan won?

  • Pagal  On April 2, 2011 at 1:41 pm

Ok the whole of ur comment revolves around disgruntled and nothing for the greed of a few u have to realize tht balochistan assembly has only ministers and only one oposition leader who also enjoys the status of a minister

  • Pagal  On April 2, 2011 at 1:41 pm

  • Ahmed  On April 2, 2011 at 2:08 pm

    My Dear sirs,
Still it is not too late,we should pin point enemy within our ranks. It is the enemy that is exploiting people and depriving them of their rights. It is politician, bureaucracy,Generals, feudals, tycoons getting loans and written off.We must force them to vomit money
    AAS

  • siddiqui my  On April 2, 2011 at 4:59 pm

    Dears All;
All of you have responded to most of my comments.
Powerful always extend their influence and authority…it begins with parents bossing the children ! so this is natural. We, the muslims also did it in our days of greatness…just survey from Moracco to Indonesia and even China. I wonder how the peoples thought about us in those far away days ! All civilisations ultimately hang themselves…it is the law of Nature…….
We just happen to be in the wrong times?

Yes, India has been hostile to us from day one; what else you expect from people who have been ruled by us for nearly a thousand years ? However benign and nice we may or may have not been, who ever likes the masters ?

As regards E Pakistan did we the west Pakistanis not do our best to get rid of them ?
Please read Justice Muneer’s book “From Jinah to Zia” and see what was our attitude ! A Bengali leadar retorted ” Thank us we did not take away the name PAKISTAN..after all we were the majority part!!!
It is us who forced them to the end game; others took advantage of out stupidities. Even China had advised us to come to a political settlement and avoid military action……………
So do not pass our sins to others.

As regards re arranging the muslim world…who helped and engineered the RE ARANGEMENT ? Firstly the arabs when the ottomans were betrayed and stabbed in the back by the arabs; come to present and what is happening in Egypt, Libya, Yemen and Bahrain….has any muslim country ( other than Turkey ) spoken out even if one does not like Qaddafi; We alyas have the attitude “we are Kosher the rest are……….”

How many of us now really care what the Quran says and tells us ? How many even know about the life and work of our Holy Prophet ( Peace be upon him ) Just look around and name ONE Ameen and Sadiq Leader?????????????

Dear Ahmad, we are our own worst enemy; why blame some unknown and unseen peoples ? Our politicians, bureaucrats, Generals, Feudals, Tycoons are from amongst us; they are not some outside peoples; they are our fathers, brothers, sons, relatives and friends….we tolerate them and also use them when WE need them; blame game is very attractive but let us look inside ourselves in the solitude of the silent night and you will see all the faces in your face !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I agree. It is never too late but we have to know we are late ? we always behave as if we are in fast track………..get it ????????
    God be with us

  • S U Turkman  On April 3, 2011 at 12:09 am

Even Pakistanis, who do not want to blame India for everything think, its India’s fault that she is hostile to Pakistan. They are trying to say, Pakistanis are not hostile to India, when since childhood we are taught hate of Hindus and other Non Moslims. Has India been teaching this to School Children like we were?
Is USA teaching School Children Racial, Religious or Ethnic hate?
No. We teach our children that and this is why we hate all others. What do want India to do, when you attack India and pretend India attacked you?
Was not the case in 1965 and Kargil?
Oh we can Sneak Attack India and occupy a part of it but India should never get hostile with us, right?
If India beats our Ass up for Sneak Attacking her, she is hostile.
In 1971, India saved 56% of Pakistanis from our punishment so, India committed a major Sin and is hostile 100%, right?
Nawaz Sharif tried to have good relations with India, Pak Army killed it by sneaking in to Kargil.
Musharraf tried the same, his own Army blew it up by sending out Terrorists for Sneak Attack on Indian Assembly.
Zardari tried the same, Pak Army blew it up again by Mumbai Attacks … but its India that is hostile, not our Army, right?
    Talk some sense …!

  • siddiqui my  On April 3, 2011 at 5:41 am

    Mr Turkman
    What is your problem ?
Who with held Pakistan’s share of money, arms and ammiunition and planes, industrial plants…etc
Who massed troops on our boarders…not once but atleast 4/5 times…read up some Indian papers since you will not trust Pakistan…Pakistan NEVER did this !!
Who occupied Siachen ? and occupied Kargil ?
Who invaded Hyderabad and occupied it FORCEFULLY; who forcefully occupied Junagadh….both in defiance of agreed Partition Plan ? nizam’s decision was not acceptable but for muslim majority Kashmir ruled by a Hindu Raja, India air lifted the troops !!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps you were not born when all this took place; may be you are the Bollywood generation…if so…then I will not blame you……..you are brain washed
Yes, we made mistakes but Indians are not also holy cows; do you know in how many Indian states insurgency is going on ?
Do you know how many millions Indians are starving; just do your sums and remember their population is nearly 1.5 billion
But I agree with you wholeheartedly we should not be India centric; we are bad and we are wrong at times but negative thinking will not solve the problems or else one migrate; God’s earth is very wide…have you considered it ? save you from mental agony and foul mouthing; it will do good for your health
Bottom line is we, India & Pakistan , both are wrong and suffer from bad and poor leadership……….would you know Manmohan Singh is a World Bank appointee and is it not a disgrace for the shining and brilliant India it cannot find a decent and capable INDIAN leader and is controlled by a third rate Italian woman???????????
You are certainly a fun man…good luck to you

      Mr. Siddiqi,
I have no idea, which money, arms and ammunition, planes, industrial plants etc you are talking about that India withheld at the time of partition. Could you provide me copy of any pre-partition document that proves your claim?
Who has been not only bad mouthing India but also infiltrating even Army Commandos and claiming that they are Indian Kashmiri MojaahiDeen, not Pakistanis?
Who has been refusing to pick up corpses of its own Soldiers from India saying they are not Pakistanis though their IDs prove they were Pak Army Soldiers?
When did we ever care about Siachin Glacier and what was it good for?
When was Kargil a part of Pakistan?
Why the hell talk about Hyderabad Deccan, when we have been slaughtering Hyderabadis in Karachi because they speak Urdu and are called Mohajir?
Why not talk about 14 independent sates that Pakistan Occupied and made them become a part of it to steal their Natural Resources?
      Millions of Indians are starving?
Are not millions of Pakistanis also starving?
May Manmohan had worked for World Bank before he was offered the job but he has never been a Traitor of India. His people had even asked me, how to put India on the road to progress because I am a World Class Economist. The Plan I gave, he never changed and you can see now India has 4th largest Foreign Exchange Reserves. India’s Per Capita Income had been a lot higher than Pakistan’s until 2001, when Charity of Aid and Loans had started pouring on Pakistan, thanks to USA.
After China, now India is rising as another large Industrial Power, while Beggar Pakistan is rising as World’s biggest Terrorist Training Camp Power. You can not advance a country run by Vicious Hungry Wolves.

      • siddiqui my  On April 7, 2011 at 9:50 am

        Dear Turkman,
I have no desire or inclination to teach you basics
Nehru witheld 20 crores of pakistan’s share; Gandhi went on his “fast” to force the Nehru govt to give the money
Ordinance factory parts were witheld; my mother’s cousin was a senior man in the Kanpur Ord factory; he was placed under house arrest so that he could not leave for Pakistan……………
Siachin had no proper survey maps and a straight vertical line was drawn on the map; so siachin fell into the Pakistan sphere
Manmohan was “nominated” by the World Bank and only then WB sanctioned the loan; it was during the prime ministership of Narshima Rao when India had gone bankrupt……..surprised ? You want ref ? Read Ashok Mitra’s book “A prattler’s tale” pages 409 onwards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now dont ask me who is Mitra ?????
Now mr Turkman shut up and go bck to your primary school for some manners and education
Thank you and God save us from the likes of you

Mr. Siddiqi could you tell me, …
    .
    * Why had Pakistan needed Rs. 20 crore, when she could print them?
    * by which document, India was supposed to keep selling Pakistan, whatever Pakistan had wanted?
    * Can any senior man in Pak Ordnance Factory leave Pakistan for India even now that your Mother’s Cousin could?
    * by which International Law the useless Glacier Siachin fell in Pakistan just because it has no boundaries drawn?
    * why World Bank forced an Indian in a job and why had not India gone to UN filing against this illegal act of World Bank if it was so? And what the hell all this has to do with what we were talking about.
    * had not Pakistan received more than her population proportion of British India Government’s Foreign Exchange Reserves?
Only your inbred Hate of India is talking here, nothing else.

Very incisive and perceptive article. The mainstream media, both paper and broadcast, are dishing out the opposite.
