Who should protect whom?

By: Yasmeen Ali   This is a Pakpotpourri Exclusive

Express.co.UK , in it’s May 15th edition, carries an article by Marco Giannangeli. It announces the decision of US to deploy troops in Pakistan if the nation’s nuclear installations come under threat from terrorists seeking revenge for Osama Bin Laden’s death. A loud whoop has gone up from the political pundits who had stated that this was the ultimate purpose of “Osama Drama”. That it was always the nuclear arsenal of Pakistan. USA had been after, that the rest was plain hogwash! Giannangeli goes on to say, the plan will be put in action without the consent of President Zardari.

Now wait. Some questions are being raised here.

The USA was attacked on 9/11 right? The aero planes went right under the noses of whosoever the noses belonged to, to the twin towers of the Trade Center in New York City, crashing not one, but two aero planes into the towers, causing both to collapse, and many died, both, who were in the plane and those who worked at the target. Yet, USA never contemplated, asking UN, NATO Forces, or any other country, independently, of deploying their forces with feet on USA soil, to guard their nuclear booty. Why on earth not? Al-Qaeda are after every American right? They are totally racist, right? So does it not make sense that USA’s nuclear arsenal must be protected from future terrorist attacks and possible take over by the terrorists?

Then comes the twist in the story:

How come, the terrorists will attack Pakistan’s nuclear installations, but will not attack USA’s nuclear installations when it is USA who is the target? AND, it is USA who took out Osama bin Laden? Also when USA has called to question Pakistan’s intelligence failure and made it clear, Pakistan had neither anything to do with the 1/5 operation, nor was aware of the going on-s of USA for the operation. Or does USA think, that the terrorists, after stealing the nuclear arsenal, the cache will be transported, all the way from Pakistan to USA, under the noses of whosoever the noses may belong to and target USA? After all, if an intelligence failure of the proportion of 9/11 could happen, this can happen too, no? Remember Hollywood?Fantastic things are possible! Of course, USA may have recalled also, the event a few years back when five fully armed nuclear-tipped cruise missiles were loaded onto a B-52 at Minot AFB in North Dakota and flown across the entire US, landing at an Air Force base in Shreveport, Louisiana, all without the knowledge of anyone in the chain of command. So, USA is driven by fear to destroy the world, for something that hardly has a chance of happening. Of course, at some one else’s expense!

By the by, hard as I tried, I could not come across a law that allows any nation, be it USA or another, to have troops with boots on ground, on another country’s soil, to “protect” anything of theirs without their consent.  Is this a prelude to the invasion of “the trusted ally” as some political pundits have been predicting for long?

A friend of mine, when reading this news by Express.co.uk ,wrote to me,” When rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it”. No, no. says another. Mumbai was attacked right? How come USA is not afraid of Delhi losing their virginity…er.. booty? They have had 8 secessionist movements in India already, no? But then, he is serenely reminded of the support USA lends India in the Region.

Fanning more hatred, what is the end? Or, is there an end?

I am reminded here of what a great man said about America. That great man was Theodore Roosevelt, “This country will not be a good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in”.

Had this great man lived, he would have surely, included, the entire world in his wise quote!

It is difficult to rate what you have presented to us all……..my mail box is full of “fantastic” theories; I too have many theories and some of them have already received drumming from some friends…one of my theory is : it all happened fairly soon after the Davis saga?? Why the entire US high command from the President down to cngressmen got so agitated about Davis ? And then it is also possible as the US is seriously thinking to fold the Afghan mis adventure,
they are cutting loose all contacts; Also DG ISI’s sudden dash to CIA and his “angry” and “abrupt” return from Washington and the appointment of gen Petreaus as head of CIA ?????????
So there are many takes; just like 9/11 and truth will be known when it will have no relevance except to laugh and enjoy the whole story !!!
Some people are angry with the Establishment; some are getting political milage out of it and some are just showing off their pretended patriotism………so many takes
But on serious note what could we the poor ill eqipped pakistani do any how ?
Poor Osama had already lost his relevance; we can now only pray for the departed ( if he is indeed departed ) soul.
On serious note if Afghan problem is to be settled and I sumrise Washington is planning just that…after all Obama certanly would like the second term…..then baggages have to be discarded and sheet is to be clean……Manmohan Singh’s cordial visit isa pointer; India will be given charge of Afghanistan with instructions not to make things difficult for Pakistan…did you notice the amicable responce of India in the just concluded Indus basin water discussions??
So all possible irritants are being removed and shed…China gave a very stern notice “do NOT MESS with Pakistan”……. WHY ?
Bottom line : just sit back and relax and wait for the curtains to fall… then we all can go home after watching an exciting and enjoyable drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next drama is unfolding in the ME….after all ME was reshaped after WW1 so why cannot it be shaped once again ?? Why all the muslim world silent on Western aggression against Libya?? . Egypt , Yemen , BAHRAIN are under pressure?????? Moral support is understandable but ARMED aggression by NATO/USA is not justified ………………………..
But we are all silent ??????????????? This is going to be re run of WW1….Iraq has been dismembered; Egypt has been de stabilised; Syria is under pressure; Tunisia has been changed; presently Libya is under pressure and so is Yemen and before you know saudis too also be asked to change and a “Muslim Vatican State” comprising Mecca & Medina is in the sight and we all devout muslims will be very happy…we all can go for Hajj and Umra without the hassle and arrogance of the saudis…QED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad dreams are for free……one can fantasise and indulge

Next in line is UAE starting with Dubai. Modes Operandi is being repeated immediately sorry simultaneously. Will take time for Saudi Arabia. Need someone support till all other small are down

  • Salman Abbasy  On May 15, 2011 at 10:16 pm

Perhaps not quite fantasy. A minor European ambassador accredited to Pakistan and Afghanistan has told me that the American diplomats are disturbed over the ‘robust’ unanimous parliamentary resolution calling for withdrawal of transit facility to western forces in Afghanistan in case unilateral actions persist. These American diplomats are telling their counterparts here that the Abbottabad action was conveyed in advance to Pakistan’s top civil and military leaders and, most interestingly, Mian Nawaz Sharif. He observed that US Ambassador Cameron Munter held a meeting with Mian Nawaz Sharif immediately after the parliamentary action.

    • Laila  On May 17, 2011 at 4:50 am

More likely than NOT. I completely agree with Salman.
As a side dish the media is mum about Pakistan ordering US security officials staying in the country to return back to home.
Quoting sources, a private television channel reported that, the American troops have been pulled out of Charat, Tarbela Ghazi and Attock Fort and ordered to quit Pakistan within a week. A small number of US military trainers are staying in Pakistan for training of the Special Services Group of Pakistan Army, US officials said.
The Pentagon said last year there are about 200 US special operations forces in Pakistan providing training in counter-insurgency. Are both connected?

I believe this was only a dress rehearsal before they carry out their final plan to get rid of the undeserved nuclear arsenal held by Pakistan and relieve the world of its rogue possessors. These are rogue because they do not have a national spirit, national character or any patriotism. These people are a salable commodity , have no faith which they practice , they are extremely selfish and corrupt of the highest possible order.

This is a stern warning , perhaps the last one or may be it is already too late.

The corrupt govt. may try the last resort to get China or Russia to come for help and save them , but this will not happen .

Yasmeen, its a appropriate reply to an arrogant power!

  • Sajjad  On May 16, 2011 at 11:39 am

Thats the prime US aim to have the access to our nuclear assets so we are left with nothing to defend ourselves with and they can finish us when they feel like. Soooooooo they are the one we should be really concerned about and not the others.

    • Salim Ullah  On May 16, 2011 at 11:39 am

      No need at all.

  • Anthony  On May 16, 2011 at 11:46 am

    Hello Yasmeen,

This is a very good article. You make some excellent points about the issues of “protecting against terrorism”, and the double standards that always apply, but I have one problem, which is your apparent acceptance that the planes in New York caused the collapses of the Twin Towers:

“…causing both to collapse, and many died, both, who were in the plane and those who worked at the target.”

I’m sorry to be so critical, but the planes could not have caused the Towers to collapse and it has never been established what the planes were, or if people were inside them, which I very much doubt. * I realise that the issue of 9/11 and who was responsible is a minefield, but this can be overcome by the judicious use of the words “alleged” and “allegedly” as well as the phrase “according to…”

I would also take issue with your calling any American politician “A great man” but that’s a whole new ball game.

Having said all that, once again, I think you’ve made some very good points.

    Take care,

    Anthony
