The human rights violation registered during detention at Gitmo revealed that on August 25, 2006 US official met Pakistani official, to solicit his assessment of a visit to the detention facilities at Guantanamo (GTMO). The Pakistani delegation left with the impression that most of the Pakistani detainees are individuals who were “”in the wrong place at the wrong time,””not extremists who pose a serious threat. A setback for a society having high moral and democratic values on Civil and Political Rights, civil liberties and freedom of expression. A superpower which has to sustain and maximize the maturity period of its lifecycle achieves its objectives through ethics and moral high ground as they are more permanent in nature than coercive and covert tools employed by a outlaw looking for short gains. But surprisingly though it has come through wiki leaks for the first time in media the issue has been widely discussed previously. Media reported that many detainees locked up in Guantanamo Bay were innocent men swept up by U.S. forces unable to distinguish enemies from noncombatants, a former Bush administration official said. “There are still innocent people there,” Republican Lawrence B. Wilkerson, former chief of staff to then-secretary of state Colin Powell, told the Associated Press. “Some have been there six or seven years.” Another report by The Times said George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld covered up that hundreds of innocent men were sent to the Guantánamo Bay prison camp because they feared that releasing them would harm the push for war in Iraq and the broader War on Terror. In 704 leaked documents assessing detainees, the word “possibly” appears 387 times, “unknown” 188 times and “deceptive” 85 times. Two conflicting committees from the Department of Defense worked at the facility and clashed frequently over how to classify prisoners’ threat levels and the quality of information they shared. Taking advantage of war on terror one captive was sent to Gitmo so officials could glean any information he had on the Bahraini court, and another was interrogated about any knowledge he had of Uzbekistan’s secret service. It is difficult to understand that it could really be a superpower’s policy or a hacked policy imposed by few on American civilization. A policy which aims at using and not making friends.
The new National Strategy for Counterterrorism expected to have some honest iteration of policy of the kind that slip through in declassified reports but reality further augment the direction of American government. The true story coming out of that report was what it didn’t say; what was in between the lines. The actions on the ground hardly speak of single core American value that the Americanadministration hasn’t violated in the security arena. It has institutionalized indefinite detention on its promise to close Guantanamo; That has stepped up targeted killing operations in Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen, revitalized Military Commissions and failed to fulfill its promise to put alleged 9/11 co-conspirators on trial in federal court in New York. Moreover, the United States signed on to a statement praising a pro-Internet freedom report by the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression, even as the U.S. pushes new domestic laws and regulations to censor the Internet, restrict users’ Internet access, and criminalize more online activities. Those efforts, pushed by the Administration, and certain member of Congress including the Senate Bill 978 — the “Ten Strikes Bill” — would make unlicensed online streaming a felony — punishable by 5 years in prison. Senate Bill 968 — the PROTECT IP Act or “Internet Blacklist Bill” — would give the government the power to force Internet service providers, search engines, and other “information location tools” to block users’ access to sites that have been accused of copyright infringement — the initiation of a China-style censorship regime.
As for policy on Pakistan, the main American partner in war on terror, the true cause of chaos, destabilization, and war in Pakistan is not the perceived picture of Pakistanis being a backwards, corrupt and self-destructive Nation. The covert fault line aims at destabilization of Pakistan for wider strategic objectives of isolation of China and in the process Pakistan may be sacrificed upon the altar of empire seeking economic gains in the NEW WORLD ORDER. In June of 2006, Newsweek referred to McChrystal’s JSOC as being a “part of what Vice President Dick Cheney was referring to when he said America would have to ‘work the dark side’ after 9/11.” McChrystal also happened to be a Fellow at Harvard and the Council on Foreign Relations. The CIA had been running a force of roughly 3,000 elite paramilitary Afghans, since 2002 for hunt of al-Qaeda and the Taliban. The force have been trained by the CIA in the United States, and their operations and numbers have expanded since the new strategy involving Pakistan was put in place. It must be remembered that during the Afghan-Soviet war in the 1980s when the CIA was funding, arming and training the Afghan Mujahideen to fight the Soviets – late to become known as ‘al-Qaeda’ – they were, at the time, referred to as “freedom fighters,” just as the terrorist death squads were referred to in Nicaragua. Thus, the nomenclature of such operatives actually doing: covert operations, surveillance, assassinations, etc., which by many definitions would make them a terrorist outfit.
In November of 2009, investigative journalist and best-selling author Jeremy Scahill wrote an exclusive report on the secret war of the United States in Pakistan. The story sheds light on the American strategy in the region aimed at the destabilization and ultimately the implosion of Pakistan. The sources for the report are drawn heavily from individuals within the US military intelligence apparatus. Seymour Hersh had exposed, JSOC operated as an “executive assassination ring” and had caused many problematic diplomatic situations for the United States, as even the State Department wasn’t informed about their operations. One high-level State Department official was quoted as saying: The only way we found out about it was when we discovered one in South America, because he actually murdered a taxi driver, and we had to get him out of there real quick. We rendered him – we rendered him home. So Raymond Davis is not the sole case.
The unethical warfare has made perceptions so strong that reality has become dynamic. . Americans government has no right to violate our cultural values and hold gay conferences in Pakistan. The writers have a big role to fight onslaught of perception war but where are the ‘soldier writers’ to defend and support the truth, contrary I find simple souls falling prey to hostile media hiding truth by naming it as ‘Conspiracy Theories’. Even true peace loving Americans are kept at bay when it comes to sharing truth. The success of perception that Pakistan is only confronted with an issue of “terrorism” and the “War on Terror” at the hands of non state actors alone will lead to multiplication of the nightmare it is passing through. We need to stand up and speak loud that this ‘New World Order’ is not in line with ‘Order of the World’. For armed soldiers in war, truth is the first casualty can the soldiers with pen make war the casualty of Truth?
