Dissociation

A British Pakistani, A doctor by profession. Part of Pakistani Brain Drain to UK I blog about Health issues, Cricket, Pakistani society, psychological problems. I feel betrayed by both illiterate fanatic muslim Mullahs and self style liberals of Pakistan. Supporter of democracy, education and science I say no to political or sectarian Islam.

Defense Day and Pakistan Army today………..

6th of September 2011 was the 46th defence day for Pakistan. But like many other national days it has lost its spark which it use to have few years ago. I think the main reason is the constant attacks on the idea of Pakistan itself by the self style liberal and foreign funded journalist. When Pakistan army is involved in a full scale war, spy games and internal conflicts. It is very unfair to criticise our own army from inside. Most of us are too busy to even notice that we do not even have a national day army parade anymore.
Out of the 100 different countries around the world who maintain armed forces, Pakistan army ranks in the top ten armies in almost any domain. We are large in number, modern equipped and has role internationally. Pakistan Army has been providing international peace keeping forces for United nations for many years. Our Elite Spy agency is also ranked among the top in the world but obviously this is not digestible by our enemies and enemy funded intellectuals. Things we should feel proud about have been turned against us. We are propagated to feel bad about everything linked to Pakistan.
Despite Pak Army being the top force among the armed forces of the world, We are the only country in which our own self styled intellectual class openly criticise the role of the army and its existence. We are the only country I can think of where you can own a TV network and newspaper and then write and propagate against army openly and allowed to carry on. The Spy agency ISI is for sure the only among the top agencies which take open criticism form its own people. In the past and since 9/11 many spy agencies have crossed international rules and done things out of ethics but you will only hear negative about ISI banging around the world and also from inside the country.
Some common criticism about the Pakistan army:
  • ·         Biggest argument against army is, the involvement of army is political system. I agree is very wrong and the collective damage Zia and Musharaf has caused is probably never going to be recovered. General Ayub was on the other hand responsible for the atmosphere in which 1971 happened.  But did I just not mentioned the names of chief of staff’s, may be some of their core commanders were also equally responsible. But then would you call on to disarm the whole force just because we had few rouge generals? we must differentiate the role of generals on the top to the professionalism and hard work of the army as a force itself.
  • ·         Some argue we have disproportionally large army. But did we really had the choice. Did we really chose to grow the army this big or were we put in the position to feel unsafe by the aggressive neighbour.  I would say India has made us keep a disproportionally large army to maintain our existence. Some liberals say India has not been the real threat to Pakistan and it is our own insecurities which make us feel threatened by India. I would say 1971 was not just a insecure dream but a living nightmare and we know how India took advantage of an internal conflict of Pakistan.
  • ·         Some foreign funded intellectuals say Army is corrupt and maintain resources way beyond it actually require. They even give example of army to be running a bank, housing schemes, building work, and even bakery and restaurants. Well if the army is trying to maintain its cost by doing business then what is wrong in it. Pakistan is a poor country and if our army has generated ways to create some faineances then why is that such a big problem. Same liberals will have a problem with Pak Army if they took 100% budget from the tax payers (although the liberals themselves are the biggest tax dodgers).  The liberal class themselves maintain private security guards for themselves and can pay anything to maintain them. But they don`t like nation to be protected and call for disarming of the Pak Army.

You don’t need to be spy trained or have degree in journalism to see the moles which have been planted in our system, everywhere but mainly in the journalism. They wake up every morning with the agenda to attack Pakistan army and ISI from different angles. Then they also cry about not able to live in complete democracy. I would say the world’s oldest democracy (UK), the world`s  biggest democracy (India) and the worlds more powerful democracy (USA) will not allow their armies and spy agencies bashed upon publically and ruthlessly by its own people with clear foreign agenda and financial motive. So is that respect Pakistan army has been too much democratic.
In my opinion we must criticize the army but at a different level. We can and should criticize their top leadership and the political leadership which take decisions to place army or plan operation. But we cannot criticize the common solider and the junior officers. they are among the best in the world and we must motivate them and boast their morale. We agree or disagree with its top generals but we must salute all who died and put their life on risk every day.
We needs to give hero’s welcome to every soldier who come back from a operation. That`s what decent nations do. Those who talk against Pak army everyday should be armed and sent on the front line to face the music first hand.

    The Author writes: “Pakistan Army has been providing international peace keeping forces for United nations for many years”
    TURKMAN: So has been 150,000 Men Bangladesh Army.

    The Author writes: “Our Elite Spy agency is also ranked among the top in the world but obviously this is not digestible by our enemies and enemy funded intellectuals”
    TURKMAN: Sure, all top ranked Spy Agencies in the world fail to find, who they have been looking for 8 or 9 years and he could be living next door to their own main Military Academy, not too far from their Main Office and not too far from their country’s capital.
    ——- .
    The Author writes: “We are propagated to feel bad about everything linked to Pakistan”.
    TURKMAN: That’s right. We had never killed East Pakistanis, we had never been defeated by India, our 90,000 Soldiers had not spent years in Indian Jails as POWs, we had never created Taliban to take-over Afghanistan, we are not behind Taliban, we had not caused Mumbai Attacks, we have not been training recruits arriving from all over the world in our JehaaDi Camps, we were not training, arming and financing Chinese JehaaDis near China’s Border, we were not sheltering Osama near our Military Academy in one of our Garrison Towns and our ISI Chief had not sent $ 100,000 to leader of 9/11 Hijackers, Pak Army has not been ruling Pakistan for 47 out of last 55 years directly or indirectly. All are lies and false ‘propaganda’, right?
    ———–
    The Author writes: “We are the only country I can think of where you can own a TV network and newspaper and then write and propagate against army openly and allowed to carry on”
    TURKMAN: That’s right. ‘The only country’ because other few dozen countries, who have the same for decades, do not exist since we say so. .
    ——–
    The Author writes: “Biggest argument against army is, the involvement of army is political system”
    TURKMAN: Yes but in lines below this sentence you are trying to tell us, it always happens because of some ‘rouge Generals’ or some General in ISI and it does not mean we should disarm it. My question is, why the hell ISI is so armed, above law and above Pak Constitution at the first place? Are you saying no ISI General is ‘rogue’ right now? Then, why Army has been still interfering in Domestic Politics directly but also through ISI?
    —-
    The Author writes: “Some argue we have disproportionally large army. But did we really had the choice?”
    TURKMAN: Yes, We had a choice to have good relations with India instead of having a large Army because India never had any designs on Pakistan like Pakistan had on Afghanistan and Kashmir. We always believed in Animosity of India so, Pakistanis could remain united under our Flag, support our Army and our Army’s habit of eating up half to 3/4th of Budget every year for more than last half century. We believed if Army was not big enough, it would not be able to keep ruling Pakistan and Politicians would take over Pakistan. By letting East Pakistan become a free and independent country in 1971, India has already proven she had no designs on Pakistan and she has no designs on Pakistan. Tell us, why Bangladesh with only 150,000 Army Men is a free country but Pakistan needs 700,000 Soldiers on its Pay Roll to be a free country? Has Bangladesh also tried to acquire so many weapons and spent money of its poor people on building Tanks, Machine Guns, Atomic Bombs and Missiles like our Army has done to keep its illegitimate rule alive?
    ——–
    The Author writes: “Some foreign funded intellectuals say Army is corrupt and maintain resources way beyond it actually require”.
    TURKMAN: Oh so all who do that are ‘Foreign Agents’? Well, I am not. We know, Bacha Khan, G.M. Syed, Bizinjo, Altaf and a lot of other Non Punjabis have been declared Foreign Agents but Pakistan has never proven this and have killed millions of Pakistanis. Pakistan has killed hundreds of times more Pakistanis than Indian Army has killed your JehaaDis in Kashmir. Why should we believe Critics of Army are Foreign Agents including the ones, who have served Pak Armed Forces themselves? We know Army is corrupt. Look at USA. A million strong Army and only 70 Generals compared to Pakistan, almost 200 Generals and almost all of them Punjabis. We, living abroad can see, how much money your Generals have stolen because some of them or their Sons and Daughters are our neighbors here in USA.
    ——
    The Author writes: “The liberal class themselves maintain private security guards for themselves and can pay anything to maintain them. But they don`t like nation to be protected and call for disarming of the Pak Army”.
    TURKMAN: Aren’t you ashamed that rich Pakistanis have to get help of Private Security? How can you save the country, when you can not save lives of any Pakistanis inside Pakistan? Why you people do Home Invasions, loot and rape the rich after taking off your Uniforms? Why our Punjabi Police sells Burglary Contracts on 50/50 basis to its Hoodlums? Why no such Criminals get arrested? If we are doing all this, why people should not think of getting rid of us, their Looters, Ransom Collectors, Rapists and Killers?
    I am not reading rest of your B.S. because it sounds like just wastage of time.

    Army as an institution, to perform its duties,it is good. we have no problems. What happened in 1965,1971,Rann of Kutch, etc. are all campaigns to be laid in annals of military history.The Air Defense in 1965 was a master piece. It is for the military historians to work on the pros and cons of every campaign.
    We have a few questions,outside the army’s domain. I do not have a concept of military warfare,I will not comment,they have no concept of governance,freedoms of the individual,law,politics ,economics,education etc ,they should stay out. one personal request would be to make our electoral process be honest.

    • S U Turkman  On September 7, 2011 at 8:01 pm

      We do not need such a huge Army, Tanks, Missiles and Atomic Bombs because India has no design on Pakistan. India proved it by letting East Pakistan become a free country. If Bangladesh is a free independent country with just 150,000 Army, why Pakistan needs such a huge Army?
      I know, why. To keep conquering Pakistan again and again and keep Staging Democracies while pulling all Strings from back of the Curtain.

      Faisal Imam Sahib opines, “they have no concept of governance,freedoms of the individual,law,politics ,economics,education etc ,they should stay out. one personal request would be to make our electoral process be honest”

      By the time An Army Officer reaches the rank of Captain he has studdied more books on various subjects than a CSP. He also has much more experience of suppervising men than our polititions including many PMs in the past. He not only studies civilian law but also Military Law. He also learn the art of Public Speaking and Art of Educationg because he has to teach his men. Yes, these Army Officers are also well versed with Politics and International Affairs to keep abreast with what is happening in the world and why. I wonder how many of our polititions gather so much of knowledge in their 20’s?

      That is one of te reasons that Army is called upon in aid to civil power in case of riots, earthquakes, floods etc.

        Please understand. Military Staff Colleges do not teach Military Philosophy but also …
        * … Political Philosophy, …
        * … Psychology, …
        * … Foreign Relations, …
        * … Diplomacy …
        * … Law Enforcement, …
        * … Business Administration, ..
        * … Mechanical Engineering, …
        * … Electronics Engineering, …
        * … Civil Engineering, …
        * … Building Missiles, …
        * ….Building Nukes, …
        * … how to be Ambassadors, …
        * … how to run Civilian Government Departments, …
        * … how to run Government Owned Industries and Institutions and …
        * … how to run a country.

        Our Military Colleges and Academies are number one in the world and envy of Armed Forces and Universities of whole world. Not even a Ph. D. of Harvard is equal to the Education that our would be 2nd Lieutenant gets and the best thing about it is, they do not have to know English much to be so educated.
        When nobody in Pakistan is more qualified than our brothers in Military to run Pakistan, why should not they be running Pakistan directly or indirectly for 47 out of last 55 years?
        Its Enemies of Pakistan that do not approve direct rule of our highly qualified genius of Military, Imperial Commonwealth kicks us out, US controlled UNO imposes Sanctions, Zionist controlled rich countries stop their Charity of Aid and Loans. We love our brave undefeated, patriotic Military.
        All Pakistanis should do ‘KhaTam’ of AayaTay Karmia against our Enemies, the Imperial USA, the Zionist West and Kaafir India so, Allah can defeat their designs on the richest country of the world, our Pakistan, full of so much wealth of Natural Resources …!

    While we discuss “our armed forces” and “their democracy”, which has been in fashion since 1989 onwards, I have one observation to make. Is it in the democratic traditions to impose a system through the barrel of a gun, by the champions of “democracy”? I have nick named this “their democracy” as “Massi Museebte”, a folk character in the Punjab. Her mere presence means trouble and chaos. Where ever “their democracy” went – Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt and the so called Arab Spring – one finds CHAOS in its wake.

      So, you mean, you want Islamic Caliphate System. You want like Dictator Caliph Mollaa Omar to run Pakistan and kill a few millions of them. After that you want such a personality to starve Pakistanis like he was. Starving Afghans could flee to Iran and Pakistan. Where would Starving Pakistanis flee to?

  • Ardeshir  On September 7, 2011 at 6:28 pm

    Hi Yasmeen,

    Thanks for speaking for the Pak forces. Their PR is poor at the same time the forces are not in the business of “love me contest”. As ex Army I appreciate your support.

    Regards,

    Yeah if he does not keep buttering up Pak Army, this old Parsi Colonel (of former British Army a part of which became Pak Army in 1947) could be assassinated by ISI tomorrow.
    He should thank God he had applied for Commission in Army of British India. He could have never been selected if Pakistan was already formed because he is not a Punjabi Moslim.
    Could he tell us, how many Parsis are in Islamic Armed Forces or this Fort of Islam right now and why have most of Parsis left Pakistan?

  • Shaheen  On September 8, 2011 at 2:41 am

    Agree with the Doctor…most of us criticize our Country horribly, I have not seen it inIndia or the States……………if the Governance is bad why blame the State? We also must pause a while & check out what we have done for the Country. I have been a Minister a few times but was paid to do my work , thus it came as part of my Duties, and, I tried my bit…………..no ‘ahsaan’ . But what do beyond …is what we should all be doing.
    Just my feelings…not for another round of controversies !

    Smile…this IS a super country !

    • S U Turkman  On September 8, 2011 at 3:37 am

      Yeah because you were lucky in this Super Country that has been begging for Charity of Aid and Loans since 1953. A country that a hundred other countries, who were behind it, have left it in their Dust.
      Is there any British Colony left that is not 3 to 4 times richer than Pakistan?

  • K. Bajwa  On September 8, 2011 at 7:25 am

    Yasmeen Ji:

    Please don’t pay attention to those who do not understand logical reasoning, sense of pride, sense of belonging and compassion. You have penned an excellent article.

    • S U Turkman  On September 9, 2011 at 4:34 am

      No, no I have no ‘Logical Reason’.
      * I have no ‘Sense of Pride’ after getting slapped by an illiterate Policeman on some Street of Pakistan.
      * I have tons of ‘Sense of Belonging’ even after finding out, how we Punjabis are the only patriotic people of Pakistan and I should treat 56% of other Pakistanis as 3rd Class Citizens.
      * I have no ‘compassion’ for my own Ethnic Group because neither my Conscious, nor my Religion, Islam, Allah or my Prophet.agrees with looting of Pakistan by us Punjabis just because they are not same as us. .
